Grandview Medical Center

Hardy provided all shell HVAC and Plumbing systems for this 14 floor, 345,000 SF medical research facility. The systems installed included 240,000 lbs of sheet metal duct, chilled water piping, steam piping, (8) heat exchangers, (16) pumps, (10) AHUs, sanitary, storm, domestic water, acid waste, lab water, compressed air and vacuum piping.
The central plant equipment installed by Hardy included (2) centrifugal chillers, (3) boilers, (6) pumps, and gas and fuel oil piping. The plumbing system included water and sanitary sewer systems and storm water drainage.
Over the years, Hardy has performed multiple HVAC renovations, additions, and equipment replacements at Brookwood. Projects included replacing four (4) centrifugal chillers totaling 2,500 tons in the primary central plant.
“We have an excellent relationship with Hardy Corporation. They have designed and installed several mechanical projects with us over the past year and the work has been excellent. They are currently installing two chillers, an energy management control system, and air handling units. Everything has been on-time. Any issues that have come up have been quickly resolved to our satisfaction.” Clifford Kelley, Manager of Plant Operations, BMC – Birmingham
As the preferred HVAC contractor for St Vincent’s main campus, Hardy has provided numerous renovations and upgrades to the campus’ central plants. Every major building and tower includes a central plant with all HVAC work performed by Hardy.
Following Hardy’s renovation, UAB’s central plant #1 was the second largest hospital chilled water plant in the USA. Hardy was the prime contractor and our contract with UAB included all subcontractor disciplines (Electrical, Structural, Concrete, Insulation, Controls, Painting and Roofing). The mechanical portion was self-performed. Hardy installed a new system including (4) new 2,000 ton chillers, (13) 6,000+ QPM pumps, (17) cooling towers, various motor control centers (MCC’s), electrical, piping, and all structural supporting systems.
This project won an ABC Excellence in Construction Award.
“The work Hardy performed was delivered on time, in budget, and was of a consistently high quality, meeting or exceeding the requirements of the construction documents. Hardy worked well with UAB plant personnel to coordinate construction activities with plant operations requirements.” John M. Slaughter, Jr., PE, UAB
